Desktop Metal Cuts Time and Cost of 3D Printing Metal by Magnitudes

3D Printing

Desktop Metal is a startup whose roots in 3D printing go back before 1989. The innovation that they've made allows them to print 100x faster and with a 10x cheaper initial cost, with materials costing 20x less as well. The parts come out shrunk from what they were originally printed at, but the printer accounts for that so you don't have to do anyting. Pieces have 99.8% density too which makes them mechanically strong for functional prototypes. Desktop Metal has two versions of this printer, a studio version for quick prototyping and a production model for mass producing objects. The studio system ships this year while the production system ships in 2018 and could compete with traditionally manufactured goods in the current market.
